East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have recently launched a consultation into their future provision across the county. This consultation ends on the 19th June 2020.
The proposals have impacts for Hastings and Rye. I would urge all residents and businesses to look at this consultation and take part.
I am approaching the proposal for the reorganisation of the ESFRS in Hastings with a sense of cautious optimism. While the proposal of an additional fire apparatus covering the high demand areas of Central Hastings and St. Leonards is welcome, it needs to be balanced with the needs of the fire department on The Ridge.
However, I have reservations with the East Sussex Fire Authority’s recommendation on reducing the number of fire engines in Rye. Rye has suffered tremendously due to the effects of the fire at The George last year, and we must consider these factors when addressing the future of fire service in the town. I look forward to the results of the consultation and engaging with all stakeholders to find the right solution to this issue.
