Campaign Response for Free Sanitary Products in Schools

Thank you for contacting me about free period products in schools and colleges.

No pupil should be held back from achieving their ambitions or reaching their full potential due to their gender or background. I welcome that the scheme to deliver free period products in state-funded primary schools, secondary schools and colleges has now launched so that young people can get the support that they need.

Since January, schools and colleges across the country have been able to order a range of period products from supplier phs Group, making period products readily available for young people when they need them. A range of products will be available so that schools and colleges can offer choices to young people, including eco-friendly options.

I am also pleased that the Government has taken additional action to support women’s charities, including the introduction of a £15 million annual Tampon Tax Fund and a commitment to end period poverty globally by 2030.

During the COVID-19 outbreak, schools continue to be able to order period products and to distribute them to learners according to their own local arrangements. Uptake is expected to increase now that schools have fully reopened.

Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
