Thank you for contacting me about the restrictions on places of worship across England.
Faith is central to the lives of millions of people across the UK and I know how important it is to regularly attend prayer and services. While places of worship are open, new restrictions are due to come into place to prevent further outbreaks due to the continued risk to public health.
From 5 November, places of worship should only be open for funerals, broadcasts, individual prayer, formal childcare, essential voluntary and public services and certain exempted support group activities. Face coverings are mandatory in places of worship to mitigate the risk of transmission.
While restrictions on places of worship may for the time being prevent us from fully practising our faith, we can continue to live out our faith through prayer and in our everyday actions. I know online services have proved a comfort to many in our area.
Our country has endured restrictions for a long period, and I am certain that when given the choice to protect others, people will continue to put the most vulnerable first as long as is necessary.
I understand the importance of going to church and I have raised your concerns with Church Commissioner, Andrew Selous MP.
Thank you again for taking the time to contact me.
