I have been informed that St Leonards and areas in the west of Hastings will lose their water supply from around 5pm today.
This is due to a burst water main affecting water supply works at Beauport.
I have been in regular contact with Southern Water today to ensure water supply is prioritised especially for elderly and vulnerable residents, the Conquest Hospital and care homes. I have been assured that Southern Water teams have been working flat out since early this morning, and have found the location of the burst, which is in very dense woodland and apparently hard to access. I have asked Southern Water to work around the clock to repair the leak and restore supply as soon as possible.
Southern Water has indicated that repairs are significant and could take more than 24 hours to fix - the water supply will then need to be restarted which will take a few hours.
Bottled water is being delivered to vulnerable customers on the Priority Services Register.
Please note the helpline number for vulnerable customers needing access to bottled water as a priority, or for other customer queries relating to water supply issues 0330 303 0368.
Bottled water stations are opening and will remain open tomorrow and into the weekend. Please look on Southern Water’s website Southern Water website and on social media for your nearest station and up to date information.
I am concerned about the impact this will have on local residents, especially over the bank holiday weekend and have asked Southern Water to keep me regularly updated and will provide further details when I can.
